Today at Mass the priest sang the Acclamation. Is this common practice in most Parishes? I’ve never heard it sung before, it was really rather nice sounding. The Mass was in plain, old English too, if that makes any difference.

Only time I’ve heard it was during Lent by a Priest with a very good voice. He sang it all through Lent. I don’t know if it’s “okay to do” or not, but it was lovely and very reverently done.

Any part of, or even all of, the Mass can be sung or chanted, so long as the proper text is used.

If your priest has a good voice, encourage him to use it more often!! 🙂

We have one priest that sings it pretty consistently, and another that does not.

I heard the Father John Michael Talbot sings the entire Mass (except the homily)

I love it when the priest chants (sings) his part. There are chants that the congregation should then reply with. This chanting is a good thing, perfectly allowable.

I don’t think John Michael Talbot is a priest.

He isn’t he is married to a former nun and teacher Viola Pratka, with the blessing of the Church.

According to Wikipedia he became a Catholic and joined the Franciscan Secular Order and Talbot’s title is General Minister and Spiritual Father.

I believe that you might mean the Eucharistic Prayer. It is certainly licit to sing it in its entirety. In fact, the Holy Father has done this on occasion. However, musical instruments cannot accompany it. The priest must chant it accapella.

At our abbey it is chanted all the time, even at weekday Mass. It is done in French Plainchant. Latin is used for the Proper and Ordinary chants.

our paruish every 1130am mass usually sings the consecration very nice version of it the line starts with He took the Bread and gave you thanks he broke the bread gave to his disciples and said …

Our priest, before he got ill, used to occasionally sing the Eucharistic Prayer.

If you watch EWTN, when Fr. John Trijilio sings the words of Christ in the Institution Narrative.
