This was a monastic rite that joined monks in brotherhood, not a marriage ceremony. The burden of proof is still completely on their side because they have proven nothing. The priest does not normally kiss the bride and the groom before they kiss each other, which points to a more fraternal bonding going on here than marital. Furthermore, the implication those in favor of same sex unions want you to get from this is that after the ceremony, the two “brothers” would have sexual relations. There will never be any proof that homosexual acts were allowed because they never were. This union was to give the monks a spiritual brother to grow in holiness with, not to join him with a lover with the blessing of God. By our standards today it might seem a bit fruity, but honestly! The term grasping at straws comes to mind.
