I was looking for the next chapter of my beloved saga Mass Effect (Andromeda, that is)…and I just found out (although it’s not recent news) that one of the developers, called Manveen Heir) is a racist douchebag who has no respects for white people whatsoever (including his Bioware colleagues). Now I’m conflicted about buying this game or not, since, on the one hand, Mass Effect has always made one of its core values the respect of everyone, be it man, woman, white, black, asian, alien or human…and this Manveer also has a, albeit severely skewed and poisonous, desire to have more social equality in gaming charachters (also, he is also a gameplay designer, so his mentality would not be included)…but I don’t know if I should be bothered by playing a game that, while it won’t most likely reflect his ideas, has still been partially created by a bigoted racist?

That’s hard. I substituted my favorite game and tried to decide if I would forfeit the next installment or play it if I found out the designer was an *****hat. I can honestly say I don’t know what I would do. I would probably eventually talk myself around into playing the stupid game.

Sorry, I’m no help in what should be an easy answer to a moral conundrum.

Peace,
B

The creator bigot who created the game, is he changing from what he was. i.e Donald Trump who had an undignified election run, is changing. VP Pence and DR. BEN Carson and more people have been praying for him. He is more dignified and more spiritual.
If your bigot is changing, you could buy game. If he is still a bigot, your question is," Should I put money into his pockets to let him continue his diatribes and pollute the earth. Would you stay in company w a doctor who performed abortions and was cavalier
About it???
Pray and Ask God for wisdom. Apparently, there are games w Christian based themes out there. Ones morals get weaker when playing games, listening to songs and watching comprised movies and TV shows. Never put poison in your mind.
God, please give all of us your wisdom and guide our paths in the direction you wish us to go.in Jesus name. Amen.

It’s tough, honestly. I’ve given this guy’s twitter history anotherscroll - he is a racist moron, all right, but he’s doing all of that in the name of “videogame diversity” - basically, he’s tired of white males as gaming protagonists, and hates the so called “white supremacy” in media. His reasonings are not wrong, if even correct, but he’s far too violent in expressing those rightful opinions (and it is likely he is exaggerating to get attention)
I like to think that, as a gameplay designer (with no way of influencing the game with his racism) he is putting the best side - not the worst - of him in this game: his fantasy, his ability with coding, his passion…I want to imagine Mass Effect Andromeda as a way for this man to express the best - not the worst - of him.
Basically, I’m turning the game into his saviour 😃

I wouldn’t play it just because of the direction Bioware (and parent company, Electronic Arts) has gone with adding gay characters and same-sex relationships to their games. These games are promoting gay and transgender ideology. By buying them, you are indirectly aiding this (material cooperation). It’s not a sin to play these games, but avoiding them is something you should think about.

As for that man, Manveen Heir, I would avoid the game for the same reason as above. In a sense, you are indirectly emboldening him by purchasing this game. When someone has bad behavior, they won’t change unless there are consequences. If this game sells really well, he’s going to think he’s done nothing wrong. “People must agree with me because the game sold really well.” On the other hand, if the game sells poorly, he might be fired and have to correct his behavior.

It’s nowhere near as easy: the guy is not a key developer - as I said in the OP, he’s one of the gameplay designers. Even if the game flops, there’s no way it’ll cause his being fired - and given that Mass Effect has always been about tolerance and acceptance, I doubt it will allow Heir’s racial opinions in terms of setting or story.

Also, sorry, but not only don’t I have any trouble with same-sex relationships (especially if they’re developed with Bioware’s tasteful and skilled romance storytelling)
but I believe that ignoring the existance of same -sex couples in the world (and being Mass Effect also about social realism) it’s childish to pretend they do not exist.
