I believe you’re referring to “A Man for All Seasons”, of which there are two film versions: the 1968 version with Paul Scofield as St. Thomas More, and (my personal preference) the 1989 made-for-TV version with Charlton Heston as St. Thomas.

As much as I love Charlton Heston, I just can’t see him as a Renaissance English courtier - or (sorry Chuck) a towering intellectual as St Thomas was.

Actually, I think the movie about St. Thomas a Becket is “Becket” starring Richard Burton. “Lion In Winter” mentions Becket in passing but is really about Henry II and stars Peter O’Toole and Katherine Hepburn.
