The attacks on atheists in this thread are uncharitable and unreasoned. There is no single attitude among atheists, any more than there is a single attitude among people who do not believe in astrology. Some have strong moral codes, some do not. Some live up to them, some do not. Some have moral codes which do not change, others change their views often.
For the performance of a morally good action Sanctifying Grace is not required. (De fide.)
The Grace of Faith is not necessary for the performance of a morally good action.

The above is from Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma by Ludwig OTT P.234-5.

So the church would agree that they have the ability to do good, in a natural way.
And depending on the good they do, will prepare their hearts for the reception of God.
So it would be to their benefit to do all the good they can possible do.

Just a thought.
