I put together a document describing for my bishop my thoughts on what was needed for a comprehensive abuse policy for the Catholic Church in America prior to their meeting on sexual abuse a couple of years ago. I also sent it to the president of the USCCB and the adhoc committee.

In my opinion, the US bishops collectively have a long way still to go.

I thought some of you might enjoy reading it. URL: stobie.home.sprynet.com/religion/abusepolicy.htm

I believe that the Church needs to deal with abuse more effectively. Types of abuses that should be included in a comprehensive policy should include (possibly other types as well): (alphabetically) Accidental, Adminstrative, Clerical, Instructional, Hypocritical Leadership, Liturgical, Physical, Psychological, and Sexual.

The church should lead the way setting a solid example to society on how to deal with abuse.
