While meditating on the first mystery last night, this thought came to me.
John Baptist baptised Jesus in the Jordan. John was of the priestly Levitical line.
Symbollically, this signified the end of the Jewish priesthood with respect to the Jewish nation’s divorce with God as well as the institution of Jesus as the High Priest.
But why in the Jordan? How is the Jordan symbolic to the beginning of his public ministry? What was it about the water in the Jordan? We know Moses didn’t make it across the Jordan. Why was Jesus not baptised with water from an aqueduct or well?
I’m thinking about the hydrological cycle and runoff of waste from the populated areas.
