Does anyone watch Heartland on Netflix? My mom and I enjoy it. If you have watched it, what are your thoughts on the show?

Not sure… It has some kissing and divorce and remarriage. There is some fighting and occasional blood. There’s also drinking, but this is usually portrayed in moderation or in a negative light. It has some mild profanity and Omg is used as well. But the overall message of the show is very positive

I watched a lot of it but after a while I couldn’t handle the language. God’s name used in vain a lot, and I would cringe every time. So I gave it up. Too bad because other than that I loved it, and it was clean otherwise. I’m surprised to hear this language on Hallmark channel to be honest.

I watched about half a dozen episodes. The horse stuff was too unrealistic for me so dropped it.

I agree, unfortunately it is very hard to find shows that don’t use that language now

Very true. I’ve had good luck with many period dramas, especially produced by BBC. Bad language still creeps in here and there but not nearly as bad. Unfortunately now I’m out of these dramas and have nothing to watch.

It took a long time and advice from multiple priests to finally raise my standards of what I’ll watch, and not to compromise on those standards just because it’s an otherwise good show. I justified it for years, but it always bothered my conscience, over and over. It was God’s persistence that made me change. I’m a pretty stubborn person. 😀

Lisa, I’ll make a recommendation for Lark Rise to Candleford. It’s a period drama (late 1800s) in the vein of Downtown Abbey, but significantly more wholesome and innocent in theme. It has four seasons. It used to be streaming on Amazon Prime, but I don’t think it is now. Anytime I feel down about the nastiness and naughtiness of the world, this show cheers me up with its sweetness.

Bonus for Downton fans: Brendan Coyle plays one of the main characters. This was the show immediately preceding his role as Mr. Bates on Downton.

Britbox has all British material. But occasionally you’ll get some bad language on the modern stuff.
