Just curious what everyone thinks will happen next with the SSPX. Specifically, will they be brought back fully into the Church?
How long will it take?
What type of form/administration will they have?
What will be the status of their chapels, past sacraments, etc?
How much of the SSPX membership & priests will follow their leaders to Rome?

Bp. Fellay seems to believe the vast majority of the priests and lay adherents will follow into full communion. It seems that, if the Vatican is willing to be flexible, a very minimal amount of theological discussion would be necessary before full reconciliation; i.e., if an agreement were made that Vatican II cannot be read in a way discordant with prior teaching of the Magisterium, and that individuals can in good faith disagree over just what that reading might entail, I think that would be enough to bring most of the society back. A few months ago I would have said they will take a fairly hard line, but after having read Bp. Fellay’s most recent interview and Cdl. Castrillon’s statement, it seems he would be willing to accept a more minimal basis like this for reunion.

I don’t think anyone here knows for sure what will happen. The rumors of a week or so ago that the excommunications would be lifted within days ended up being true. More recently there have been rumors of normalization of the society as a whole and the lifting of the suspensions by as early as Monday. 🤷

Hoping that comes to pass quickly, whatever happens, I do not want to see them under the immediate jurisdiction of local Bishops. I don’t know enough about how all the different groups are set up to state exactly. I do know that the SSPX chapel in my town would have major problems if they were put under the jurisdiction of this diocese Bishop.
