#1 was the Eucharist a command or a blessing?
#2 Is the Eucharist our only access to the kingdom? (Perhaps mandatory for believers?)
#3 Can a person filled with the Holy spirit NOT believe that they are literally eating the flesh and blood of Jesus.

Thoughts???

Both

Yes, once the age of moral culpability is reached.
#3 Can a person filled with the Holy spirit NOT believe that they are literally eating the flesh and blood of Jesus.
Not and be in the fullness of truth in God’s church.

Just look up the process by which the passover sacrifice was enacted in the old covenant. Christ’s death is the final passover sacrifice, and as such it followed the same mandates… in other words, to properly take part in the sacrifice (and therefore to benefit from it) one HAD to consume the flesh of the lamb.

The proper word is not “literally eating” but “eating what is the Substance of the Body and Blood of Christ.”

If it were literally His flesh and blood, we’d see veins, sinews, bones, and corpuscles.

What we receive is the SUBSTANCE under the ACCIDENTS of bread and wine.

(Keep in mind that “substance” and “accidents” have technical theological and philosophical meanings here.)

  1. Both
  2. The Eucharist is the Lord. He is the Way, Truth and Life. In Heaven, there will be no more need for the Eucharist. On earth, it is our best way to Him.
  3. It isn’t as if you are eating a piece of Him, it is a way for you to be united to Him, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. It may only last a moment or two, but the effects of Holy Communion, properly received, are tranformative. The lives of the saints are testimony. St. Bernadette’s life comes to mine, also St. Catherine of Siena.
