It seems rather strange to me that GOD would use astrologers to foretell the birth of Christ. I thought that astrology was wrong in GOD’S eyes. How would people who were not part of Judaism even know anything about a savior to begin with?

Just because something is prohibited, doesn’t mean that it’s false.

by the way… the magi were a persian religous group, who were searching for the ultimate, infallable good, they found it! remember they didnt have jewish tradition to teach them not to use astrology anyway.

Astrology is a part of Jewish tradition.

You missed my point completely…If astrology is condemned today, why do we accept it in the past,or is there nothing wrong with it at all?

Alyssa-if they were not part of Judaism, how would they know about the old testament, they might have worshipped a sun god or something. It’s weird GOD used pagans in the Christmas story.

Seems everyone else has bought into your supposition but I will not.

What astrologers? Were does it say that the Magi were astrologers.

He used deicide to save the world. Astrology is rather minor in comparison.

Take a great evil, make a great good, 'tis the way of our Lord.

Trelow-are you suggesting the magi were evil? did they convert to Judaism after seeing the savior?

lol, what happened here?

stupid browser.

Not suggesting that the magi were evil. Just that God makes bad things good. As in astrology, not a good thing, but finding our about the birth of our savior Lord Jesus Christ, most wonderful news.

Not really. It is a theme in the NT about how the Gentiles respond to Jesus. Look at the story of the Canaanite woman who talks about bread falling from the table for the dogs, or that soldier who says Jesus doesn’t have to go into his house and only has to say the word to cure the person.

Since it is a theme, I would expect to see it present in the Christmas story, which carries some themes. It shows the gentiles responding to Jesus. There is a passage in the Psalms that is similar, um, 72:10-15 or something.

Alekzander,

Among both the “Saint Thomas Christians” of India (Malabarese and Malankarese Catholics and Orthodox) and the Chaldeans and Assyrians (where the Magi likely had their roots), tradition holds that the Star reappeared to the Magi, bringing them back together near the end of their lives. They are then said to have encountered the Apostle Thomas (this probably about forty years after their travel to Bethlehem), when he arrived to evangelize. It is said that the three, then elderly, were converted, ordained, and raised to the episcopacy, dying shortly afterwards.

The feasts of Saints Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar are kept in the Coptic, Ethiopian, Eritrean, Chaldean, Malabarese, and Malakarese Catholic and Orthodox Churches and the Assyrian Church of the East on January 1, 6, and 11, respectively.

The relics of the Magi are believed to be enshrined in the magnificent Cathedral of Cologne, which was constructed specifically to provide a suitable repository for them.

Many years,

Neil
