What is the general opinion of the new Tim Staples DVD “Why Be Catholic”? I am interested in buying it and would like some honest critique of it first. Thanks.

Just recently purchased it and I am in process of watching it. I’ll let you know my thoughts once I am done.

I haven’t personally watched it yet, but I did buy a copy for my brother who is thinking about becoming Catholic (thanks be to God!). The only negative thing I’ve heard is Tim keeps saying “Amen” all the time and it gets annoying.

Basinite you are right about the one negative thing regarding Tim’s new DVD. This is the reason I have not finished it yet. I have listened to Tim Staples numerous times on Catholic Answers radio show and I really enjoy him which was the main reason I purchased this DVD. Unfortunately, he reminds me of all the Sunday preachers you see on TV so I’m having trouble getting through the whole thing at one sitting. Eventually when I get through it I’m sure there will be a lot of good information. Good luck with your brother.

This is the same problem I’m having. I just got it, and had to turn it off after 10 minutes. I love Staples on the radio and was really looking forward to this… and giving it to people I thought could benefit from it. But I’m not sure I can give it to anybody for fear that it will turn them off to Catholicism.

I understand being enthusiastic about the subject and I do not doubt that Staples is sincere when he utters “Amen” after every other sentence, but that does not take away from the distraction. Even if it is sincere, is it really necessary to say “Amen” after explaining Einstien’s theory or relativity? That’s just too much. It’s like the person that says “You know” after everything – it gets annoying pretty quickly.

I’m sure the DVD is chock full of good material, but unfortunately it is buried in an annoyingly distracting idiosyncrasy.😦
