I was wondering…
Heaven and Hell are eternal. This means, they are independent of space and time, as is God, His angels, and His saints. But what about Purgatory? Is it also independent of space and time? If so, then what is the purpose of our praying for the souls in purgatory if they were “out of time” (meaning we could not expedite or “speed up” their purification)? Is our praying meant to ease their sufferings, or what? Indeed, I understand purgatory as a means by which the saved souls are purged and that this purification process takes time. If it takes time then, are they present in the material world or somewhere between heaven and earth? Please answer
Ave Maria! Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!
