I’m single so I have a bit more time than probably most mothers. I came into the church through RCIA (even though I was already baptized), so I am a sponsor every year (Sept-May). I sing in the choir, usually at 2 masses if my feet hold up because we have such small numbers. I’m on our parish carnival planning committee. I’m a committed adorer for our Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration chapel.
I was a volunteer for our high school ministry team for about 2 years, but it was just too much time all week plus a very long Sunday. I still pitch in with whatever they need like fundraising for mission trip, etc. I spent a few years in our parish’s fine arts organization which brings Catholic concerts and an art auction to our community.
Even if you feel like you have no particular “talent,” I’ll bet that there is something you could do to help. It may relate to other interests that you have outside of church. We have an altar linen group that washes/mends altar linens. A group sewed the huge banners for our new church. (I can sew, but wow that was a lot of really long seams!) There are people who do the altar flowers. There is a group of our Spanish speaking ladies who have a particular devotion and clean the chapel on their knees while praying. (This is in addition to our paid staff that regularly cleans everything.) I think that there is something for everyone if we just look around and set aside some time.
