If you can devise a means of slowing the expansion of a particular part of space and matter, then the rest of space and matter will expand faster relative to the space and matter you have slowed down. Once you have return space and matter to its normal rate of expansion you will find your self in the future.

The critical word here is “If”;

Apart from that - and depending upon what modern scientific theory you follow - you are probably correct.

I fell asleep last night; except for a couple of dreams vaguely remembered, time disappeared and I find myself waking up in the future, a bit older and not any wiser. But I assume the OP is about being in the future without aging, the purpose being unclear. If one wishes to leave the world a better place than how one found it, the concept is pointless. It is also rather horrific when one considers one’s relationships. As it has always been, some people believe things are getting better, most older folk, I would say, see the world getting worse - “plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.” There’s plenty to be done where we find ourselves, and there is always something that in our small way we can contribute (spoiler alert - love). Faith is action; let’s get to it.

We have already time traveled to the future - mere micro seconds but it been done - every astronaut that has gone into space has done it - due to the fact of time dilation - time slows down as we accelerate - GPS satellites would not work if time dilation had not been accounted for. Special Relativity predicts that the on-board atomic clocks on the satellites should fall behind clocks on the ground by about 7 microseconds per day because of the slower ticking rate due to the time dilation effect of their relative motion.

So yes it is possible to move into the future but not into the past.

I saw a documentary once where it was shown that if a man flies around the earth counter-rotationally at close to the speed of light, the earth’s rotation will first slow, and then reverse, causing time to go backwards. Of course, the flying man is the only one who would have actually traveled backwards in time; and he alone would notice that anything happened.

Here’s a clip: Time travel through turning earth counter-rotationally

Apparently it helps if you are emotionally distraught as well. 🤷

:hmmm: Of course, the ethical implications of causing people to relive certain moments of their lives over again could be debated. And if one went back far enough, the entire future could be altered, depriving some of their very existence! :nope:

And if two or more people wanted to travel back in time to different points in time, and they were trying to turn the earth backwards and forwards at the same moment – holy guacamole, Batman!

Thankfully, this technology does not yet exist.

Um, they have this on video. Sheesh, I can’t believe how far people will go to doubt realities that are right before their eyes. I’ll bet you doubt UFO videos too!

I was up last night at 2 am. All the sudden, my phone says 1 am! Completely possible! (and in some places, mandated by the local government)

Hey, just wait a second…wow! You’re in the FUTURE!

I always thought of time and space as a moving and expanding record; assuming central point of a Big Bang. However, this theory is under conflict with e=mc^2; for matter to be where it currently is under a bang theory, the matter would have to travel faster than the speed of light.

Back to assuming there is a central location and all matter moved from that location. In this me travel we would have to have coordinates that indicate where time was physically in space to return there. Much like with an old record player, where you could put the needle in the middle for your favorite song. Looking forward may require changing the record as in a juke box.

Superman! I didn’t know superman was a documentary?!?!

Near Chattanooga, there is a sign that says you are entering Central time zone on one side of the road, and the other side, says entering Eastern time zone. You can go back and forth between the two. Your friend on the other side of the sign (say you’re on central time) will be in the future!

We time travel whenever we move at all. Time moves slower for things in motion. I time traveled this morning just going from the bed to the potty.

It isn’t so much that the astronauts traveled “forward” into time but that their relationship to time was relatively different than those of us on planet Earth. One cannot go to an event that has not yet occurred, just as one cannot go back to an event that has already taken place.

Did barry mess with the timeline, again?

If time travel was possible, i’d take a 3D ultrasound machine and pregnant woman to the supreme court of 1973.

At this point, we can only dream. It does give me an idea though.

And if you cross the international dateline at the right moment, you lose your birthday…you could stay 25 forever (or until you ran out of frequent flyer miles…)

First international time travel symposium to be held in 1 WTC on July 4, 1987.

Seeya guys there.

Now some say that Bruce Willis could not possibly be General Douglas McArthur because the much honoured soldier died when the renown actor was about ten. It could be possible however, as realistic as time travel, that a meeting between Master Willis and the General led to the latter’s demise. There can only be one. At least that’s how some science fiction has it.

What you said doesn’t make sense. You can find the idea behind traveling in future here. This doesn’t mean that you can travel in your future which is obviously illogical. This only means that you can see the future of others if you accelerate.
