Tips for when you are suffering...what do you do?

Be it illness, fear, death of a loved one, incessant worry - what do you do to cope?
I have many fears and phobias and 'have been trying different strategies to try to deal with them.
I’ve tried exercise, meditation, breathing strategies, self hypnosis, etc. and they may work for a while but when push comes to shove its only prayer, prayer and more prayer than can will get you through life’s rough spots.
This point really came home to me today with a scary dr’s appointment as I’m quite dr phobic.
I went through it shaking all the way saying “Jesus, Jesus” over and over and it helped very much.
What do others here do in similar situations?

I pray the Our Father, Hail Mary, and ask for God’s mercy. May God bless you!
 
I also pray or say briefly “ Jesus I trust in You” or “ Holy Mary” .
And then so as to avoid that time in between when one is restless and gets wrapped up in thoughts, undertake something like embroidery, painting, sewing , picking up bark to make chips,or any sort of activity where I focus on that only. Whatever, even hoping on to the tractor if it means I have to pay continuous attention to what I am doing.
And last but not least, activities with water which I find soothing and love.(even cleaning galleries bare footed with a hose.
And meet people who will talk about something interesting , different, than our source of suffering.
Strength ! Everything passes…
