because I won’t engage in PMS. I mean it’s like you’re a freak or something. I don’t even want to date anymore because the lack of respect I get. I mean whatever happened to just getting to know someone. It just seems to be all about one thing these days. This is directed at both men and women. What do you think true for you too or not?
Women around here are typically not absolutely opposed to premarital sex, although they will not try to lead to a single encounter. Most will probably be able to live without it until married and to marry without “finding out” first. However, I’m not strong enough to get over the fact that a person would normally be sexually active but is not only because of me, so I would normally not have a relationship with a sexually active person, barring any indication of change. This might be different if I had tremendous respect for the person for some other reasons.
At any rate, I would like to try with a practicing and obeying Catholic for once.
Children are to be taught that premarital sex is wrong, which is non-negotiable. This may cause problems with a potential spouse who believes otherwise. Essential goods of marriage are not negotiable, either. I will not marry someone who excludes permanence, exclusivity or progeny. Contraception is not an option - given the abortifacient effect of contraceptive pills, I think I’d rather stay unmarried than have sex knowing a child that could actually be conceived could be killed.
This said, I will not marry someone simply because she is Catholic - there is a ton of important things that aren’t covered in the literal understanding of the core matters. I need to be attracted, I need to respect the person a lot, I need to have something in common, I need to be able to communicate, I need some bond, companionship, community. This is not brother and sister.
So far I’m fine. I realise I may not be able to find what I seek, but that won’t make my life miserable. And the alternative would be worse. Besides, I have faith that God will provide - and if not, then perhaps for the better of me. Maybe it wouldn’t be the best for me, how do I know?
