Tithe - Gross or Net Income

The Bible doesn’t specify, but do you consider a tithe to be 10% of your gross income, or net income?
 
We have to give our whole life to Christ, not just 10% (net or gross) of income.

Tithing is OT.
 
I believe we are called to prayerfully consider what we are to give,not only of our monetary means but our time and talents as well. Additionally our monetary tithe is not to come from our superfluous funds,it should be sacrificial.Whether it is 10 percent or more or less is subjective.

LOL - Your life is more than your income.

And remember we have to render unto Caesar too.

And look after our families.
 
I’d say its a little bit of both. For example, if your working at a store and getting paid $15 an hour, then its gross. But if your a business owner where you have expenses, then I think its reasonable to take out those expenses first. If I made $150 for selling a widget, but it cost me $75 for the parts to build a widget, I’d say tithe on the $75 profit.
 
Neither. It was presented as a way for societal support in lieu of taxes, so that neither gross or net have any meaning.

Its irrelevant as we are not asked to give a specific amount or a specific percentage.
 
Tithing by Old Testament rules was 10% of the increase. So when my pension is deposited in my bank account, the “increase” is the amount by which my balance goes up.

That said, Old-Testament tithing is not required under the new covenant, so you can calculate your giving any way you want. Personally, I would love it if the Lord would trust me with the kind of income that would allow me to do like R.G. Letourneau – give away 90% and live on 10%.

The Church does not require a tenth (tithe). We are cled to be generous and contribute of our time, talent and treasure. No amount is stipulated.
