Titles of the Patriarch of Constantinople

When did the Title “All Holiness” come into use by the Patriarch of Constantinople? And what do the other Patriarchs go by? I was reading a book titled Paul VI written by an Anglican and in it he re-accounts an episode were his holiness Pope Paul VI refers to the Patriarch as your holiness and the author says he looked shyly back at him and said “I’m not your holiness, your holiness” and Pope Paul responds “you are holiness to your people as I am to mine”. In the foot notes it said that the Patriarch’s title was his*** ***Beatitude. The book was written right after then the Second Vatican Council.

The Ecumenical Patriarch is properly addressed and referred to as “All Holiness,” though “Holiness” alone is used in English.

This same title is used for most other Orthodox patriarchs, such as Moscow, Bucharest (Romania), et al.

Jerusalem, Antioch, and Alexandria (the Greek Orthodox patriarch, that is) are the exceptions and use “Beatitude.”

That’s a good question. Wikipedia doesn’t say, although it does mention that his official title is “His Most Godly All-Holiness the Archbishop of Constantinople New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch”.
