Traditional Latin Mass filmed on Easter Sunday in 1941 at Our Lady of Sorrows church in Chicago. The film presents the ceremonies of the Missa Solemnis or Solemn High Mass in full detail with narration by then-Mgr. Fulton J. Sheen. Celebrated by Rev. J. R. Keane of the Order of Servites (hence the white habits and cowls), the ceremonies are accompanied by a full polyphonic choir, orchestra, and fifty Gregorian Chanters.

To the glory of God the Father. Amen!

The Latin with an English accent sounds strange yet funny 😃
 
Takes me back to Masses when I was growing up. Very rarely had a solemn High Mass because of the need for 3 priests, but did so sometimes. Our choir was not nearly so good, nore were the priests so practiced!

I was a bit distracted by the coordination of the celebrants in moving about the altar. Certainly not to be disrespectful, but having been in a marching band at one point, I can appreciate the practice and know how such movements require! Maybe the film was speeded up at that point which made it so remarkable.

Glad these Masses are becoming a bit more available for those of you it helps in your journey. I just hope they do not again become the norm.
 
This is one of my favorite videos on Youtube. The accent, I think, works very well. The Latin is fantastic.
 
Who are the ladies seated in one row that they bow to at the beginning of the the Vidi Aquam?

I think men in those days wore pompadours. Precursor to the later ducktail sported in the late 50’s. which replaced the reactionary flat-top. Don’t mean to be a distraction, but it is kind of funny to look back. I noticed the ladies with the hats. Mom had some fantastic ones.
 
This video is great, like many other posters is one of my favorites on youtube. However, I am not a fan of the Ordinary compositions. Well played, well written (I guess), but not fit for Mass.

One of my favorite videos as well. I got a VHS tape then a CD the discovered it on YouTube. It gives me goosebumps to see all those fresh young faces in the chior and realize it was the eve of WW II. May the faithful departed by the mercy of God rest in peace!

A VHS tape of this Mass was distributed by Keep the Faith in 1984, when the (very limited) indult to celebrate the old Mass first came out. It was advertised in The Wanderer and other publications, and became a centerpiece of the Latin Mass movement, since there were at that time no videos of Tridentine Masses. It was enormously popular among those interested in the old rite, and was studied endlessly by many to learn the ceremonies of Solemn Mass. I still have my tape.

Two years later a new video was made of a Mass celebrated in England under the indult, along with Low Mass and Benediction. This was of superb quality, and took its place alongside the Sheen video. Both were later released on DVD.

Excellent video! This was one of the first traditional Masses I saw on tape. It was only days after seeing it that I made up my mind to attend the TLM.
