TLM useless? what

I was checking current news on web when I came across this news article about the Tridentine Mass. I quotedcited a statement from a priest who happened to be the papal latinist and this is the statement:

"Tridentine Mass “is a useless [M]*** and the whole mentality is stupid. The idea of it is that things were better in the old days. It makes the Vatican look medieval.”
–Father Reginald Foster

There is also a thing about him saying Mass in nude… that he is a naturalist and so forth…
I don’t have anything to prove that and I don’t know if that is true
I read it from an online news article actually dated today 07-21-2007.

Any thoughts on both of these statements.

Medieval is a boo word. In fact the Mass itself is ancient whilst the Tridentine rite is Early Modern.
He’s entitled to his opinion. Saying that something has gone wrong necessarily involves saying that there was a previous time when it was better. But maybe he is right that there is a hankering after a past that never was.
There is also a thing about him saying Mass in nude… that he is a naturalist and so forth…

There is actually a theological case for nude Masses. We don’t do it as a concession to human weakness. If he’s going to insist on this radical interpretation of the liturgy he’d also better be prepared to accept the consequences.
 
I’ve heard this quote also. It’s a ridiculous statement. Since the Tridentine Mass can trace its lineage via organic development back to the time of St. Gregory the Great in the 6th century it’s akin to saying the mentality of the Church was stupid prior to the 1960’s. What garbage.

This is the same Priest who also said that Pope Benedict just wouldn’t release the Motu Proprio because he wouldn’t want the controversy. Whoops, guess he was (thankfully) wrong on that one.

I thought he was the Pope’s Latinist??? His name looks familiar at least.

Anyway - how does one say mass in the Nude? If nothing else I’m sure it goes against the rubric that tell priests exactly what clothing to where (e.g. cassock, alb, cassibule (sp?))

He is the Pope’s Latinist from what I understand. I think he’s responsible for translating Vatican documents from Latin to English. He seems like a living paradox. He appreciates and teaches Latin and yet ridicules the Traditional Latin Mass;–the liturgy that will genuinely help keep Latin alive on a more popular level in the Church.
 
Please do not make speculations about the personal piety/holiness, etc. of anyone, especially any ordained men of the Church. Thank you.
