I am getting ready to move out of my apartment and thus clean through my clothes. I have never been one to dress IMmodestly, but I can’t say that up until recently that I conciously dressed modestly. I need some pointers on what is modest, and what is not, especially from you men out there, since this affects you the most. I’m tossing out any skirts that aren’t at least knee length, but what are some other clothing styles that you find to be a tempation?? BE HONEST, I only want to have to clean all this stuff out once!! 🙂

I’m a woman but I can give you a tip: no V-neck shirts and no spaghetti strap dresses, and no dresses with lots of your backside showing. Those last two were things that my Catholic all-girls high school enforced at school dances. I have a few chastity tips on this webpage: dashjr.is-a-geek.org/~cora-jr/chaste/tips.html Please PM me if you have more chastity tips for me to add.

My husband recommends no pants/sweats with words printed across the backside.

God Bless

First of all I’d like to thank you for actually taking a proactive role in encouraging guys not to stumble. Lord knows not enough Christian women do.
Many things I think should be self-explanatory, like not wearing revealing clothes. I would suggest that this doesn’t only mean low-cut shirts and such, but includes tight, form-fitting clothes as well. After all, you’re revealing your form, aren’t you? I might meet some opposition on this, and I don’t mean that you need to wear things so baggy that we can’t tell there’s a person in there. But you know. Be sensible. 🙂

I would add no slogans printed directly across your breast. Most women seem to be wearing these shirts today and usually the shirt is so tight that I wonder how they slipped into it.

I agree! Thanks for looking out for us men. However, we too are called to look at you with eyes of purity, no matter how you are dressed. I live in Honduras and many women nurse their babies at any moment and without any type of modesty. At first it was shocking but now I see the true beauty of the relationship between a mother and child. Did the women change? NO. I learned to see the beauty of God instead of getting whiplash trying to look the other way for fear of falling into sin:eek: . I just give this example for the guys reading. If we even look lustfully we have comitted adultry! God bless you all!

Mine too! Good Luck cleaning and moving!!!

Very admirable that you started this thread.

This might meet a lot of opposition, but here goes: bikinis are almost guaranteed to make a guy lust. I would submit that it’s impossible to find such a thing today as a “modest bikini.”

also, just because it’s a one piece doesnt mean it’s modest. going back to sgt sweater’s post, almost any swimsuit these days is very form-fitting and meant to reveal the body.

but use your judgement.

just a thought since summer is fast-approaching.

One more thought: would you be comfortable in standing before Our Lord in what you have on? This seems to be a good rule to determine modesty

thanks for everyone’s suggestions!!! But I have some more specifics in mind. What about sleeveless shirts (not spaghetti straps)? How do I know if my jeans are too tight? Or should the rule be, if I am questioning a particular clothing item, the fact that I am unsure should dictate that it is immodest? I feel like I am sort of naive about this, especially since I know that guys see things different. I may not think something is immodest, but it actually might be. You know what I mean?

if you have to lie down on the bed to zip them

clothing that reveals the graces of your person are inherently immodest. something can have coverage but be so clingy that little is left to the imagination. in general clothing that says “I am sexy, I want you to know that I am sexy, and I want you to think about sex when you look at me” is immodest. that would be about most of the styles in stores today. the foundation garments should be appropriate to the fashion as well. I hate bridal parties with bra straps showing, bulges in all the wrong places, when the proper foundation could make the dress fit properly. We should not be looking at a Victoria Secret catalog when we look at a woman.

Dear friend

I would answer, don’t wear anything that you would not be happy wearing sitting in the company of Jesus. It doesn’t matter if it’s not smart or designer, it doesn’t matter if it’s second-hand or brand new, all that matters is your modesty is preserved and you are happy to sit in those clothes (modesty wise) in the presence of Jesus.

God Bless you and much love and peace to you

Teresa

p.s. you may like to consider giving away any excess amount of clothing you have and just keep a few outfits.

I agree. However, if you consider something to be immodest, you should find another use for it like a dust rag, instead of giving it away. If it causes men to stumble when you where it, why wouldn’t it cause men to stumble if another woman was wearing it?

excellent point! i have to agree. it’s better just to either throw them away or make them into a cleaning rag, etc.

Dear friend

Very true if this woman wouldn’t wear it to protect her modesty, then she should just throw it away. I was speaking more of the clothes she might wear but might have an excess number of them.

God Bless you and much love and peace to you
