Im a member of another forum which has the same platform; https://www.ketogenicforums.com/t/severe-insulin-resistance/41631

A lot of people have photos of themselves for their avatars. Granted, the topic is much more relaxed and less of a troll magnet than Catholic religion. But, I also think a photo creates a more personable, trustable atmosphere. I’m back and forth about posting one. Why am I afraid to? I’ve said some stupid, brash things in here, for one. 😂 And. It’s sort of fun being anonymous at times.

Anyhow, I admire the people here who have the guts to post a self photo, and find myself having a little more of an affinity for them… not based in anything rational, of course. 😉 It would be nice to build a little more of a community here. I see lots of sharpness and dueling more than I see Christian fellowship here. I would say the site and it’s topics are built for Catholic answers and debate as opposed to fellowship, or cheering each other on in battle and prayer, but is that safe? Especially when people don’t really know our qualifications or who we are?

CAF admins advise us never to disclose online our real names or any information about ourselves that might enable someone to identify us. That, surely, must include photographs of ourselves.

I’ve gotten really down about the Catholic Answers debating aspect of the forum. Simply because dueling words and forceful personalities can be misleading. I remember one time, someone informed me that biofeedback was against the Catholic Church teaching and used some sort of official looking church document to back it up. I’m not an expert in this area, and so I believed this person. When checking into it with a person I knew to be qualified IRL, I found that this comment was wrong. (Please don’t anyone start debating biofeedback here lol.) I know CAF has the disclaimer in order to protect itself, but…
I suppose debate can be good. I don’t know.

Thus, the name Catholic Answers Forum…
Well, uh, right lol. But I’m not so sure that’s… safe, and maybe it’s even contradicting. It’s more like All Different kinds of Answers Forum.

My reason for not posting a picture, real name, or even the name of my parish, is that I don’t want to be recognized by the people I know in real life. Then I never have to worry about posting anything about my faults and failings. If my identity were known, I would only post good things about myself.

Actually, I forget that I have shared some personal details of my life on here in order to offer another poster some moral support.

Random, you really are a gem! Cruciferi, I’m guessing you’re… well we probably shouldn’t objectify

I didn’t get that until ten minutes later, in my car, wondering “What did Daisy mean by that?” When I made the connection to my avatar (and Cruciferi’s), I was literally LOL. 🤣

to be honest, most times i can’t even make out what the avatars are. i have seen a few posters use pictures, but i cannot prove it is them and the picture is so tiny that you can’t really make the person out.
