To the Parents (esp. Mom's)...is Sunday EVER a day of 'rest' for you?

(that is why God created paper plates :).
HA! I tried to give up paper towels for Lent one year. I had to stop after three days because my sacrifice was making everyone miserable.

I don’t “rest” on Sundays either. I definitely have to go to the grocery store and wash the uniforms that day. We go to Mass and then to my Mom’s every Sunday morning, but the rest of the day includes a lot of chores. I read somewhere that it doesn’t “count” as work to take care of your family.

WOW. You are one blessed person:) Enjoy it while you can!
yeah, it’s neat to see a 3 year old get so excited about tackles and what not. God has given me the best-est friend i could ask for, well, besides my wife. (she doesn’t like football though) 🙂

Like someone else said, I have learned that part of the whole mommy thing, is sacrificing that quiet, alone, spiritual time. I guess I will just have to ask that God spiritually fortify even when it seems like I’m not paying attention to Him

I might also pray for Mary Poppins to fly down and come to my house and snap her fingers a few times for me:crossrc: 😛
I struggle with this too - my life seems so mundane and any other interests, even those that would benefit the family as a whole, are shelved.
I got the book “A Mothers Rule of Life”:
mothersruleoflife.com/

And it was very insightful. It helped me to see more clearly my vocation as wife and mother, and put my mundane life in better perspective. I’d recommend checking it out!

As far as spiritual time goes, I’ve found that if you’re on the go a lot in the car running here and there, that’s a perfect time for prayer. I can normally get in a Divine Mercy Chaplet between home and the sitter and I say it loud enough for the baby (16mo) to hear.

I was trying to make stations of the cross a couple afternoons a week w/ swee’pea, but with the weather getting colder and me getting more and more pregnant and him getting to be more and more of a handful, I’ve decided that it’s okay if I can’t do it all. As the babies get older, we’ll be more able to do things like that together.

I’ve adopted a little montra from watching all these “Kids by the Dozen” shows on TLC (re: famillies w/ 12+ children). A recurring theme I’m hearing from the moms is that it does get easier as the children get older.

It may not always feel like it, but our chaos as mothers is a blessed chaos!

I find that things like this tend to evolve through their own seasons as we go along. Whatever your Sunday may be like right now can totally change as time goes by, sometimes not that much time! I remember when all mine (7) were younger, I sang that same Sunday song! Then I went through a time where I was a single, working Mom. The person who pointed out that car time could be a good “quiet time” with the Lord, had it right! I used to say my Rosary on the way to work. I also used put on music I liked and wrote in my prayer journal right before bed. That was pretty much all the solitude I had. Many times I fell asleep mid sentence, but I think what is important is your heart’s focus. You can carry the Lord with you wherever you are and whatever you are doing you can offer to Him. As another poster on this forum who is much more advanced in this than I says…“In the living prayer of my life” (Saint Therese the Little Flower) ( a good saint for those of us whose daily tasks can seem mundane and repetitive.)

God Bless you

Try to embrace the season you are in, it will soon pass!

Peace,

Kelly
