To those who deny the true presence

Thank you…My mother’s relatives were former Southern Baptists who relocated to the Northwest after loosing their farms and plantations. One told me she knew the Catholic church was the true church just by history alone…but like many post Protestants, never bothered beyond that. My mother was the only one who was a Catholic convert, and a very special one at that.

I just erased several remarks.

From the denial to be properly educated in early Church history – to why people refuse to do so --is defined and remedied in Fr. Thomas DuBay’s book, ‘Faith and Certitude’.

The foundation of Protestantism is ‘to protest’.

this catholic poster quoted a verse from John 6 which I am sure you are all familiar…

“I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats the bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”.

I know that you believe what you stated…

if we are to enter His Kingdom, we MUST eat the flesh (the bread actually changed to the HIS body in mass) of the Son of Man and drink His blood

And I assume, if anyone who does not believe in the real presence and claims they are Catholic, may present a problem with the priest as to whether or not he will offer communion to that individual.

I will give you the answer straight from my heart what I believe to be absolute truth from the verses you quoted.

Jesus never joked, never small talked and only talked in absolute truth.

Then why do you believe in the the real presence and I do not

I believe in assurance of salvation, catholics do not

One of the reasons I believe in assurance is because of the verse you quoted from John 6

Having said that…look at some key words in the verse…“whoever eats the bread will live forever”

"live forever" means heaven, correct?

and since you believe in the “real presence” and I do not,

my question to you and catholics is the same question you posted…

Can I suggest that you just tell Jesus what you just said here? I don’t want you to be insulted that I suggested it, because I know you love him so much. But, sometimes it’s really easy to forget something when we are under trying circumstances. I will keep your burdens in my thoughts when I go to church next, and in my thoughts until then. Sorry this is happening.

There is a song I like called “Be Not Afraid”. Maybe someone here has the words to it. I don’t know why it just popped into my mind after reading your post.

Quoting the part of ‘whoever eats this bread will have eternal life’…

I have young relatives who left the Catholic church in part due to the lack of local charity by Catholics as well as the anti-religious culture we moved into.

I have reflected on the phrase as well in regards to eternal salvation.

About Catholics not being assured of their own salvation, I think that is good in the fact that we are not the ones who put ourselves into eternal life. We will all come before the Lord with trembling knee.

Furthermore, in the spirit of the Church, Vatican II, when dealing with people of other faiths, the only ones faced with the possiblility of eternal damnation, the Church addresses Catholics…we are given the fullness of means for salvation, but inspite of all the graces available and the outward form of conversion is professed–following the Church law on Sunday Mass, etc., but does not love ones’ neighbor, not only will the Catholic be judged, but not receive eternal life.

When a person treats others the way s/he would like to be treated, following the Golden Rule, obeying and respecting parents, respecting the property of others, not hating, killing, lying and stealing, these people are walking on the road to salvation.

What is important for believers, is that we are in non-judgmental relationship with other people—loving, feeding, clothing, visiting, healing–with our neighbor, irregardless of their affiliation. Christ stands at the heart of every person.

When I receive Holy Communion, most of my life, I feel nothing. I make an act of faith. But if I came into Mass feeling alone, or depressed, or not feeling so well, at the end of Mass, I feel connected to other people, I want to go out to serve others in praising God. This new life is separate from me, but It becomes a part of me. In no way does this new life bring me to separate or judge my neighbor…

What does bring me to separate or judge is my own selfish pride, or attachments which don’t bring me to eternal life…let God be God…
