Did you know you can get an indulgence today by using an item blessed by a Bishop or Pope (I have a Rosary), using the below conditions? šŸ™‚ You can even get a partial indulgence by using an item blessed by a priest or deacon.

An indulgence is ā€œ a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, which the faithful Christian who is duly disposed gains under certain prescribed conditions through the action of the Churchā€. The Church applies the graces of Christ and the Saints to us, just as a third friend might step in and help us fix the windows we broke. A partial indulgence remits some of the temporal punishment, a plenary indulgence remits it in full. One can gain an indulgence for one’s own soul, or for souls in Purgatory.
The Apostolic Penitentiary names the conditions for a plenary indulgence: being in a state of Grace (thus, friendship with God); having the interior disposition of detachment from sin, even venial sin, that is, wishing and striving for even the slightest offense against God to be removed from our lives; a sincere and holy Confession; worthy reception of Holy Communion (even if outside of Mass); prayers for the Holy Father, and the completion of some act. These do not all have to take place on the same day, but as the Penitentiary explains, can take done about twenty days before or after the indulgenced act.
St. John Paul II wrote, ā€œindulgences, therefore, ā€œfar from being a sort of ā€˜discount’ on the duty of conversion, are instead an aid to its prompt, generous and radical fulfillmentā€ ’ ā€. On the 29th of June, if one visits the Cathedral Church (which, this year, everyone does by attending Mass) and says an Our Father and the Creed, one can be granted an indulgence. This can be a great impetus for our ongoing conversion to Our Lord and holiness in our lives.

And from another site:

June 29th, Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul
The Solemnity of the two great Prince-Martyrs of the City of Rome is not only a commemoration of the shedding of their glorious blood in supreme witness to Christ, but is also memorial of the unity and catholicity of the Church which Christ himself founded upon Peter and which spread throughout the whole world through the preaching of the Apostle Paul.
In commemoration of her apostolic origins and of her unity founded upon the Bishop of Rome, the Church grants a special plenary indulgence on this day.

Religious articles blessed by the Pope or by any bishop
ā€œA plenary indulgence is granted to the faithful who, on the Solemnity of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, make prayerful use of an article of devotion, as defined by Norm 15, that has been blessed by the Supreme Pontiff or by any bishop, provided the faithful also make a Profession of Faith using any legitimate formula.
ā€œA partial indulgence is granted to the faithful who devoutly use such articles of devotion properly blessed by either a priest or a deacon.ā€ [Manuel of Indulgences, Grant 14]
What counts as a ā€œreligious articleā€?
ā€œThe faithful can acquire an indulgence if they use devoutly one of the following properly blessed pious objects, namely: a crucifix or cross, rosary, scapular, or medal.ā€ [Manuel of Indulgences, Norm 15]
How do I gain a plenary indulgence today?
It is rather simple:
1) While in the state of grace do the following:
a) Pray with a religious article (crucifix/cross, rosary, scapular, or medal) that has been blessed either by the Pope himself or by a bishop. (Partial ind. for item blessed by priest)
b) Make a Profession of Faith, for example: The Nicene Creed or the Apostles’ Creed.
2) Go to confession within about twenty days before or after, with at least the habitual intention of gaining indulgences.
3) Receive communion within a couple days before or after, with the same intention.
4) Pray for the Holy Father, the Pope (example: Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be)
5) Make an act of the will to detest all sin and to be free from attachment to all sin, even venial sin.
n.b. Only one plenary indulgence can be obtained each day, others will be partial.

God bless you all! :)šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚

:tiphat: Thank you for the information, tonight i will definitely pray the rosary with my blessed rosary.
But one question: what is the habitual intention of of gaining an indulgence?

I believe that means that when you go to confession or receive communion, you must do so with the intention of obtaining the indulgence in mind. For me, that means although I went to confession Monday, since I didn’t do so with the intent of receiving the indulgence (it slipped my mind) when I go later this week, I will need to intend to receive the indulgence; likewise, communion.

oh, since i didnt know there was an indulgence to be obtained, i guess, i will have to do all that again within 20 days.

I am new to being Catholic, it just seems weird to go into confession and receive communion telling God you are doing this to get an indulgence. Just seems like it undermines the grace received from the sacraments.

But you can obtain an indulgence for someone else. Perhaps approach the sacraments with an indulgence in mind for someone else and it’ll feel more holy for you :-).

We aren’t going to Confession and Communion ā€œjustā€ to get the indulgence. We should be going these things anyway, and can offer our intentions for those instances. Indulgences are not required of any Catholic, so if you don’t feel comfortable with it, that’s fine. It’s like saying ā€˜Please apply my grace received for this, as well as the other things, for this intention’. Just as Masses are said for certain intentions or people, we can ask for our graces to be applied as indulgences.

I believe that partial indulgences can be obtained for others, but plenary indulgences are only for ourselves. However, I believe you could pray that this indulgence grace be applied to someone else, in which case it would be a partial one, and it would need to be for a deceased person.
