In today’s gospel was the passage “No one has gone up to heaven except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.”
Wasn’t Elijah taken up to heaven in a chariot of fire?

Elijah was taken up without death, but not to heaven. No one went to heaven before Christ, rather the righteous to Abraham’s bosom, and the unrighteous to hades. Upon Christ’s death, he descended and opened up the gates of heaven and presumably took with him the Old Testament Saints.

Blessings,

This is what it says in 2 Kings 2:11
As they walked on conversing, a flaming chariot and flaming horses came between them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.
I presume this story was familiar to the person Jesus was speaking to.
