okay, i have real issues with The View today. i normally don’t watch daytime tv, but happened to flip it on…they are sitting and talking about the Pope’s State of the World address from yesterday. NONE of them are Catholic, yet they are sitting there like a bunch of idiots trying to discuss what the church teaches about contraception, gay marriage, procreation, etc. really has me steaming…i’ll be e-mailing ABC. if you caught any of this stupid conversation, you may also consider letting ABC know what you think…

The Church challenges the world by her teachings in faith and morals, because the Church does not hold her teachings to be an opinion, but the truth. Moreover, the Church teachings apply directly to roughly 1.1 billion people, if you count all the living who are baptised, and indirectly because of the influence of the Church.

Considering the influence of the Church, it isn’t a surprise that the Pope’s remarks are taken as what they are: an address to the world. After all, if the head of some independent state other than the Vatican made an address to the world, the rest of the world would feel free to remark on it.

On that account, when you write your letter to ABC, I’d suggest that you address any factual errors in the discussion, and ask that in the future the panel invite a Catholic theologian or prelate as a guest speaker who can intelligently answer questions about what the Church teaches, and why. An arrangement like that would serve our evangelizing mission better than expecting people to refrain from discussing it when the Pope makes public remarks to the world at large.

I hate that show and have only watched 5 minutes or more of it in the few times I have switched to that station when it’s on by mistake. I’m always sickened to my stomach by how idiotic the conversations are. All they do is bicker. It’s like MTVs Real World show …they just bicker. I don’t see the point. It makes women look stupid.

Joy Behar’s take on Tim Tebow’s mother’s story about the miracle of her child, Tim, was idiotic: youtube.com/watch?v=xqReTDJSdhE

By the way, this is the ad that had “women’s groups outraged”, and about which even Whoopi Goldberg asked “What are people flippin’ out about”: youtube.com/watch?v=xqReTDJSdhE

Behar said, “he could just as easily become some kind of a rapist pedophile. I mean, you don’t know what someone’s going to be”. I could point out the obvious flaws in the statement, but this is the kind of idiocy that comes out of your mouth when you insist defending a wrong as if it were always right. She is that concerned that people who have abortions and “they’re glad that they did it” be defending as having done the right thing.

Maybe she’s had an abortion herself, who knows. At current rates, 3 in 10 American women will have had an abortion by the age of 45, so it is entirely possible. That could certainly explain her rhetoric.

My mom, who shares none of their " views," watches this show daily (for the interviews and performances.) I think she should stop, as it’s an occasion of sin for my dad. It seems every every time I’m around while she’s watching it, he’s mumbling a death wish for Joy Behar.
But, seriously, I wouldn’t concern myself with anything they have to say. Consider that, discussing Roman Polanski drugging and forcibly having sex with a 13 year old girl, Whoopi Goldberg said, “I don’t think it was * rape * rape.” After hearing that, can you really take seriously any moral discussion that takes place on that show?

A complete waste of time and airwaves - and cable bandwidth. If you are just flipping by…keep on flippin’!!!

~Liza

I’m all for a greener environment, but that would mean they’d have to stay on the air forever! 😉

Ultimately, the View women (which I only very RARELY watch----I cannot STAND Joy Behar) are paid to discuss current events or any kind of religious or non-religious daily happenings they can fix their secular eyes on.

So they would say-------“we may not be Catholic, but the Pope’s address is to the WHOLE world and it IS newsworthy, so more people than just Non-Catholics have a right to comment on it.”
Unfortunate viewpoint, but true.

Were they go wrong is where they presume to take the address out of its religious context and make it just another quasi-political statement they can dissect and examine according to their own particular world viewpoint (which is, except for one of the women, exclusively secular, morallly relativistic, cynical claptrap).

So yes, I see where you are coming from.

Sad.

But . . .

If shows like this had orthodox Catholic apologists calmly, patiently, and accurately explaining the Church’s teachings with love . . .

where would be the DRAMA?
:bigyikes:
:slapfight:
:okpeople:

There is very little drama to be had in listening to the opinions kicked around on The View, IMHO.
Exasperation is more like it.

They don’t have the courage and intellectual honesty to call it “The Bigotted View” because they know they have successfully convinced much of the unthinking public that only loving, pro-family values religious people who don’t march lockstep with their propagandized beliefs are bigots.
