I was just wondering say someone goes to confession lets say today and then commits a mortal sin two days later. Would it be weird for them to go to confession again so soon since they would be going less than a week later? Should they just refrain from receiving communion that week or should they go to confession anyway no matter how close together they are?

That being said, if one struggles from scrupulosity, one should always go to the same confessor and obey his instructions, no matter what.

In truth, the very first thing is to make an act of contrition, an act of grief as perfect as possible.

Then yes, the ASAP Confession.

In addition to what others have said, the person needs to take a hard look at why he’s committing mortal sins so frequently.

If the sin isn’t something that’s clearly grave matter (e.g. masturbation, fornication, etc) then also it would be good to discuss with one’s confessor whether the sin is actually mortal. People who suffer from scruples may think that small sins are mortal when they are not.

A Catholic should always go to confession ASAP when in a state of mortal sin.
during a conversation with my older cousin, he said mortal sins are things like “murder and adultery”, so he mentioned when not doing anything like that… we are not committing “mortal sins”. How accurate is his story about mortal sins?

Sorry but that is complete nonsense. He is clearly ignorant about what the Church teaches.

Those are two possible examples; there can be many others. The catechism says grave matter - that can be missing Sunday Mass without cause or taking the Lord’s name in vain. A person in doubt or with questions about what is/isn’t really needs the counsel of a priest rather than anonymous people online.

Our priests say - obviously not by giving names - that when people confess immediately before Christmas, some say more or less: «Father, what should I say? I didn’t kill anyone, I didn’t steal … "

It is not easy for priests to rebuild the moral conscience of these people.
