Too many intentions!

After using 33 Days to Morning Glory for my latest consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I’ve been consecrating all my prayer intentions to her Immaculate Heart because of past hinderance to my prayer life.
I used to carry a long list of names and intentions to pray for. It became overwhelming to go through the list everyday.
I’m questioning whether or not my new way of praying for people/intentions are as fruitful. It should be, right?

I make a short list, glance at it and offer prayers for them. We should not make it burdensome for ourselves. Also, you may be guided to pray for one or two in particular, leaving their names on the list for a longer time.

In many cases, one prayer is sufficient.

Let the people and situations you are praying for touch your heart. Hold them in your heart, as it were, and not just in your mind.

Then when you pray, offer Our Lady and her Son your heart, with all the intentions you carry there. Your mind will remember some of them, but the rest will still be there and will be offered to Our Lord.

I don’t know if this helps any but it may work for you. I have a much shorter list that is still too long to rattle off in mid-prayer; it also distracts, which is bad for prayer. What I have done is to come up with a moniker by which to identify the list. Every so often, I go back and remind myself of what they are, not that I could forget anyway, and just drop that moniker into my various intercessory prayers, spur-of-the-moment prayers, etc. Whether or not that helps you, may God bless and guide you.

Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses

I have a list as well, probably 30 or so intentions, I pray for one each day, I never thought of praying for them all at the same time. Anyway, during my Total Devotion to Mary I kind of combined a couple of things and came up with this prayer.

My suggestion is to think of it like this. God knows what you want, He knows what you need, so offer it all up to God… Here is the prayer I say…

Oh my mother, please accept this,say whatever you are doing, mainly here I am doing a prayer or rosary or something of the sort] take it as your own, just your touch, simply your word will make it acceptable and pleasing to the Lord God Almighty, take it, offer it up to God for me, not that my will be done, but that your will, that God’s will be done, and my simple and unimportant intention be a mere passing consideration before the throne of God, easily thrown away in comparison to the majesty of His will.

I think this is a good way to pray, too.

I used to have a long list and would take 3-5 minutes to pray individually for everyone on the list mentioning each person’s specific needs, and it would take so long. No one would ever leave my list and it kept getting longer and longer. It did become a burden and I felt so guilty if I missed a day. And then I thought of Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemane where, in one prayer, he prayed for all those who would come to believe in him. I thought that if Jesus took 3-5 minutes to pray for every single person by name who would ever come to believe in him, he would still be there.
So I’ve come to believe it’s OK to pray for everyone at once. Although I still say a quick prayer individually when I see a request on CAF, and throughout the day for specific intentions for family and friends.

Don’t let the list keep you from real prayer. You don’t need a lot of words.

While I am not familiar with 33 Days to Morning Glory, I suspect the answer to your question is “Yes.”

Father Rippenger speaks of something called spiritual contracts. Tell the Lord when I say “this word” take this to mean these prayers. A similar thing takes place when an Archbishop kisses a book of names during the Catholic rite of accepting new converts to the Catholic Church. That is a spiritual contract. If an AB can do this to welcome thousands into the church, you can do this with your prayer intentions.
