I understand. Trust me. It won’t last forever. God will see to that.

10.) Your sense of purpose is right there in front of you, whether it be your fifth shot of tequila or some girl dancing up on stage. Mysticism is too vague.
Repeat after me: I am not a mystic. (I am not a mystic). Good. Je m’appelle Spirithound, and I am not a mystic (ok, stop repeating now ;)) Not all are called to mysticism, but all are called to holiness. Our purpose in life is to know and love God in this world and be happy with Him forever in the next. This purpose is concrete, God never changes; He is the Immutable, the Omniscient, Omnipresent, Omnipotent.

Tequila might taste fun…well, after the 4th shot anyways. But then what happens once you’ve killed the bottle? Have you no purpose then?

What of the girl on the stage then? We must not reduce any of God’s daughters to a mere piece of visually appealing flesh. She is made in the image and likeness of God, and as such as an inherent dignity about her.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women, and
Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death, Amen.
9.) Being a slave to sin brought much pleasure, whereas being a slave to Jesus through Mary seems to bring nothing but self-consciousness and self-defeat.
The cross is heavy, but God will give you the graces to overcome!
The sexual sins are very addictive, but remember you also are made in the likeness and image of God. Live up to your dignity! Pornography is a cheap mockery of love, honour, and dignity.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women, and
Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death, Amen.
8.) Masturbation seemed permissable.
This is another cheap mockery of marital love. The sexual act is the closest bond we can share with anyone. If you share it with yourself, can you really give of yourself to another?

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women, and
Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death, Amen.
7.) Freedom from guilt is liberating. Feeling sinful for having certain dreams I seemingly have no control over is the worst experience one can wake up to.
Freedom from guilt is a delusion. If you’re sinning, you’re sinning. That being said, I’m confident in agreeing with another poster that dreams are not sinful. It may be something to talk to your priest about, though. I pray for you and your chastity.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women, and
Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death, Amen.
6.) When I felt sorry for myself, I at least could drown that out in an overabundance of alcohol, laughing, and loud music at the clubs.
Why not go to your local church, or drown it out with loud Christian music? PS, laughing isn’t a sin.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women, and
Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, our Lady of Laughter, pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death, Amen.
5.) There are at least four times as many opportunities for dating.
Try volunteering for a youth ministry.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women, and
Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, Virgin, Mother, and Wife, pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death, Amen.
4.) I had five times as many friends and close acquaintances who were just as likely to stick by me through hell and high water.
I have five times as many friends since volunteering at my church. Really, it works!

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women, and
Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death Amen.
3.) Sin is completely relative to opportunism.
No no, my friend. Sin is sin, whether you’re sober enough to recognize it or not.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women, and
Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death, Amen.
2.) The cross seemed infinitely lighter.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women, and
Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death, Amen.
1.) I wasn’t nearly alone as I am now.
Your entire list are variations on this theme. Your previous lifestyle was a destructive one. It’s one that many of us have been on, including myself, and it will take time to fully recover.
As you continue on the Way, I do encourage you, get involved in your parish. It’s not absolutely necessary that you cut out your old friends, but there are some things that you can’t do with them anymore. Please pray with me.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women, and
Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, our Lady of Perpetual Help, pray for us, sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Epistemes,
Glad you came back! Getting up again is what gets us to heaven. I promise, happiness beats pleasure, hands down.

Hey you all join the St. Vincent De Paul, St Joseph group, Sacred Heart group, just as good join the charismatic group and do these things forgetting about self. I did and no probs the rest is in the time on the net CAF.

Godbless

This reminds me of a handout I received several years back about conviction vs condemnation. Conviction will keep drawing us closer to God while condemnation, ‘you’re no good’, ‘you’re a loser’ etc will draw us away.

When was the last time I was really drunk? Shoot, it was accidental and a friend’s birthday. My glass kept getting filled and I was thirsty. I finally asked for diet soda!!! 😃

When I sin I feel dirty, guilty, unworthy, and absent of anything good.

When I try to change and ‘be Catholic’, I feel awkward, unbelonging, and alone.

I am starting to equate my attempt at religion with someone who has no athletic ability trying out for the NBA.

We all fall short the glory of God BUT that doesn’t mean we are hopeless. Jesus suffered and died for us on the cross, conquered death and is now watching over us. The angels and saints intercede for us, He sent us the Comforter, the Holy Spirit to be with us. Keep praying, hold on to the faith. Those rocky hard times, times of pruning, times where it seems everything is going wrong, those are times of growth. Keep your eyes UP to where our HELP and HOPE comes from! Amen?

What do you mean by “be Catholic” ?

Ok, maybe I didn’t post it like I thought, for some reason I thought I typed ‘hitting rock bottom’ but I guess I didn’t. Maybe I corrected myself before I did!
