First, Doug you’re definitely not coming across like a jerk. The level of insomnia and anxiety you’re describing must be maddeningly frustrating. I strongly agree with Xantippe. When you went to see a sleep specialist did you go through the process of spending the night at their lab while hooked up to EKG/EEG monitors? The prospect of doing that might provoke anxiety, but it’s actually a really peaceful and nice process.
There are extremely powerful sleep medications like Xyrem and opiates that cannot fail to put you to sleep. It’s just a matter of your physician ramping up until they something powerful enough to work. Tell your doctor about the adverse reactions you had with your earlier at overcoming insomnia, and they’ll likely try something entirely different until they eventually find what works well for you. I’ll be praying for you.
