Total Consecration -- If it's so important, why doesn't the church mandate it?

I very much appreciate the gift of St. Louis de Montfort’s True Devotion to Mary.

I also have a great liking for “33 Days to Morning Glory” because it shares the insights of Blessed Mother Teresa, St. Maximilian Kolbe, and St. John Paul II. It is so inspiring!

Thank you for sharing,

Dorothy
I’ll second or third the recommendation for the book “33 Days to Morning Glory.” My wife and I had similar reservations as the OP, but after hearing Fr Mike Gaitley speak at the Defending the Faith Conference last summer, we both decided to read this book and make our Consecration this past December. Another great book that really helped our understanding of our Blessed Mother was a book by Tim Staples, called “Behold Your Mother.” goodreads.com/book/show/22633331-behold-your-mother.

First of all, the name. I know the official name of this devotion is Total Consecration to Mary through Jesus, but most of the time it’s just referred to as Total Consecration to Mary, including what I assume is the most popular website for the devotion. The number one hit on Google which points to the calendar that you spoke about calls the devotional act “Total Consecration to Mary.” This is troubling, because if you totally consecrate yourself to Mary, where does that leave Jesus?
And right there is the problem. I looked at the website, and it’s nothing “official”, though it may be authentically “Catholic”.

Reading the first couple pages of this thread I didn’t see the clarification, so I’ll say it here, and if it’s a repeat, sorry.

It’s “Total Consecration to JESUS through Mary”. It’s based on Louis de Montfort’s “Total Devotion to Mary”, through which a person then consecrates themselves to Christ…through His Mother. (It’s a reflection of the way Christ came to us…through His Mother.)

Maybe that will clarify things?
