I made my Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary on June 27th (Our Lady of Perpetual Help) a few years ago.

I’m going to be renewing it this year… however, my parish is doing the Consecration tomorrow. I wanted to join them and just renew it twice in a year, hopefully that’s okay. I did some of the preparation but I admit not very well, but I’m going to do it well for June 27th.

St Louis de Montfort says to go to Confession and Communion to make the Consecration… there’s a chance that I might not be able to go to Confession and Communion tomorrow and would have to go on Sunday or even after.

My question is, - do you think it would be wrong to make the Consecration without Confession and Communion? 😦 I’m really trying for tomorrow but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to. The ceremony with my parish is happening in the afternoon and everyone will say it together, and it will be before a priest.

I was thinking that since I’ve already made it, it’s a renewal and not like making it for the first time, and there are times when I’ve just read the prayer to remind myself of what I promised before… I mean I just read it at random times in the year when I wanted to.

If I would not be able to receive the Sacraments tomorrow, would it be wrong somehow to still say the prayer, since I said it before and will be renewing it more properly in June?

I need to attend the event though because I’m helping out afterwards in the reception…

thanks!

I think I read somewhere that receiving the sacraments does not necessarily have to be on that same day, but I am not sure if it was for the Total Consecration or for the First Fridays devotion. You can always ask for Confession before the event and receive Communion on Sunday while reciting the prayer.

If you cannot get to Confession at your church’s designated time, try to get to Mass a little early and go directly into the Sacristy. When the priest enters to vest up for mass, ask him to hear your Confession. Very rarely, if ever, will you be turned down.
Of course, under these circumstances, it is incumbent upon you to come prepared and to make your Confession as short as possible, so as not to make the priest late in starting Mass. Also, do not expect to receive too much counselling with this type of Confession.

I am also getting ready for total consecration - using the book Totus Tuus. From what I understand, you should go to confession as soon as you are able, but if not able before the ceremony, as soon as possible afterwards.

Not being able to go before hand should not impede you, because your intent is there. 👍
