Hello,

I am looking to do the St. Louis De Montfor Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary. I have heard that some books are better that others for this. Are there any reccomendations?

True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary by St. Louis de Montfort

If you don’t already have it, I strongly suggest that you get it and read it before you do your consecration.

There is also a guide that leads you through the consecration step by step called Total Consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary I don’t recomend it, although it is popular, because it leaves out a significant part of the reading material.

If you have already read it and you just want a good book to go with the devotion, try The Glories of Mary by St. Alphonsus of Liguori.

God Bless,

I have not read anything on this yet so True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary by St. Louis de Montfort sounds like a good place to start.

The True Devotion…book will help you if you later decide to go through Consecration. Without reading the book, you will find it difficult to understand the purpose of the consecration.

True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary is a great place to start. It gives background and theology of the devotion, then takes you through the consecration step-by-step.

Some of the language in the book (written in the early 1700’s) is used a little differently from the way we use certain words today. Don’t let this put you off. For example, when St. Louis de Montfort calls Mary “divine mother,” he does not mean that she is God, but rather that she is mother of God. If you get the Tan Books edition of True Devotion, be sure to read the footnotes (given at the ends of the chapters, so you’ll have to do some page turning). These notes will help you navigate through some of these language issues and keep you from tossing the devotion aside as heresy (which it is not).

If you do decide to do the consecration (which I highly recommend), you should also have a Bible and The Imitation of Christ on hand, since the readings included in the preparation for consecration come from these books.

The Militia Immaculata has a book called Total Consecration to Mary: Spirituality and Nine Day Novena.

It is used in their Marian consecration.
