Has anyone here undergone St. Louis de Montford’s Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary? I am in the midst of the 33-day consecration.
I first made the consecration on Dec. 8th, 2004 (which so happens to be the 150th anniversary of the proclaimation of the Immaculate Conception!), and I have since renewed it twice a year since then.
🙂

catholicdoors.com/prayers/english2/p02004.htm You say this prayer every day for 33 days. It was written by Saint Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort. It is a very powerful prayer, and consecrates you to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through the heart of His Blessed Mother. From then on you are entrusted, as it were, to these two hearts.
That is indeed one of the prayers, but that is not the preparation for the consecration. There is a formula of readings and prayers for the different preparatory sections before the actual consecration.

Here is a link for the consecration and preceding prayers, meditations and readings:

Also for anyone considering making this consecration I would highly recommend reading St. Louis de Montfort’s book entitled True Devotion to Mary first, and then make the consecration which you can use online or buy the little booklet. (like I did. 😉 )

can one still pray for oneself and others after consecration? how about watching tv, playing games, going to malls,?
are these okay?

Is that a serious question?

If so, the answer is yes, of course you can.

thanks for the reply. sorry for the silly question, coz i want to do it, and consecration is a very serious thing, not to be taken lightly , so i want to make sure dat doing these things are still OK.

No, praying is strictly forbidden!
You also have to sell ALL your worldly possesions and go live in a cave. 🙂

I’m in the middle of True Devotion, and have decided that I will begin my consecration this year, on my birthday (I’ll be 20 years old).

Though, I wonder: Where would I be able to receive spiritual guidance specific to this consecration?

What type of spiritual guidance are you looking for? The consecration is on the 34th day (which is supposed to be a Marian Feast Day) and the 33 days prior* is* the spiritual guidance for the consecration.

(Just curious, did you notice that the formula calls for the preparation to begin on certain days? It should give you the schedules in the beginning of the booklet.)

I missed one of your posts! That caused some confusion. When I first had read “spiritual guidance”, I was under the impression that I would be undertaking this consecration with a spiritual director.

Thank you for the help.

I need some advice from those of you who have done this total concecration. I have been thinking about doing this for a couple of months, but I find that whenever I think about it, I start feeling really nervous, anxious, and sometimes physically ill. I don’t know if the Holy Spirit is trying to tell me that the time is not right for me to do this,or if this is for some reason not right for me to do (maybe I’m meant for some other devotion?). I have a hard time understanding my repulsion to this consecration, however. What do you think?
During Lent in the final days of my catechumenate, I used to feel physically ill during the reading of the Gospel at Mass. The closer to Easter and my baptism we got, the more ill I felt. Even those around me remarked that I looked ill, asked if I was alright and urged me to sit, at least, if not actually to leave Mass.

It was not the Holy Spirit who was doing this but the Adversary. Anything to get me to not be baptised. After Easter, it stopped, abruptly, and so I knew the source of my ill feeling. Personally, I do not associate anxiety attacks, nervousness and feeling physically ill with the action of the Holy Spirit.

Do consult your priest but bear in mind that there are other sources for your anxiety than the Holy Spirit. Pray that your Guardian Angel protect you from all evil influences and then pray about whether this devotion is for you. IMHO, it could be that this devotion is very specially yours and the Adversary knows that you will bear much fruit if you continue with it.

Ok, I did it today. It was the last of my “First Saturday” devotions, and I decided to make the Act of Concecration. Please pray for me, because this whole thing still makes me nervous.

Thank you.

good luck to you! right now, I’m in the preparation stage. just a few more days & ill be making the Montfort consecration. 🙂
i feel nervous too, even right now as i recite the prayers and read the meditations. but sometimes, my fear slowly disappears.

I read somewhere that Mary will give you some initial graces after you make the concecration. Well, I had one small but happy blessing yesterday, just a few hours after I made the Act of Concecration.

A few weeks ago, I lost a rosary that was given to me at my first Communion several years ago. It wasn’t a fancy one, just a simple, white plastic rosary, but it has a lot of sentimental value. I usually carry it with me in my purse, and I had lost it somewhere, retraced my steps, etc, but no luck. Several prayers to St. Anthony et.al, but no luck.

Yesterday, I was picking my MIL up to take her to mass, and as I got out of my car, I just happened to look down, and low and behold, there was my rosary in her lane! I’m amazed that it was not broken, as I’m sure it has been run over a few times, not to mention burried in the sevearl inches of ice, sleet, and snow that we’ve gotten over the past few weeks.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I took this as a good sign that I did the right thing.

I’d say you just received a confirmation that you have made the right decision. The Lord (and Mary) uses things like this to reach us sometimes. Just a little sign that we have chosen the right path.

May God bless you and keep you strong in faith.

You’ll be surprised by the nudges you’ll get because of the act of consecration. For me , there is a message in every Mass reading or homily. Usually something pertaining to what I just read, talked about with my wife, or came up in the confessional. My wife noticed it too. It has really confrimed my belief that Christ leads the Church and that the Holy Spirit is working through the her. The Church and the motherhood of Mary are very similar in the way it leads us to Christ by faithful obedience. God Bless, Tim

Typically, you try to start the 33 days so that the consecreation will occur on a Marian feast day. So the next ‘start’ date would be February 20th so the process will end on March 25th, the Annunciation of the Lord.

Check out this website on consecreation developed by the Rosary Army folks!

My wife and I have both consecrated ourselves to Mary. After consecration, I felt closer to God than ever. I had such an experience I recently created a site dedicated to Montfort’s way of Consecration to Jesus through Mary. Please check it out and send me an email by going to the contact section. Let me know what you think.
