Touched by an Angel TV show

I watched a few episodes earlier today, just curious how everyone feels about this show.

the plots are kinda cheesy and way predictable, but I guess the time period it originally aired, it was a good representation of that time. Overall, I think the show is good and gives good advice, morals to like, etc.
 
I loved it when it was shown years ago. Not Catholic theology, but good morals, good if saccharine stories, and good acting.

I was especially taken with the Angel of Death. A story about him:

The cast were flying to a new location, with the stars in first class and the ‘grunts’ in Second, when they hit some bad weather. After the turbulence settled, Death decided to see how the ‘grunts’ were doing, so he popped his head around the curtains between First and Second class and enquired if everyone was feeling OK. Consternation and a bit of screaming from the rest of the passengers, who didn’t know the cast was onboard.
 
I think the “angel of death” characters name was Andrew. That was a funny story.

It was a cute show with good morality. It’s been years since I’ve seen it but remember it as enjoyable and having better values than much of what was on.

Sadly, the actor who played the Angel of Death died very young, soon after the series closed. I believe he, and some of the other principals, had a strong commitment to God. If this show were being started today, it would never be put on a major network without damaging changes; for instance, I am sure they would have to show an episode in which opposition to gay marriage is sinful prejudice that the angels would help overcome. The only way it could be made as is, would be on a tiny evangelical network.
I have seen all the episodes on the “UP” network. It is very good, the only complaint I have is that the great majority of episodes show men as either clumsy, well-meaning types that get themselves and others into trouble, or else as abusive. The show was obviously aiming at a demographic for advertisers of evangelical women, age 30 - 60 or so. Those are usually portrayed very positively. But overall it was a very good series. Roma Downey has an interesting website, favorable to Christianity I think.
 
My dad and I used to watch it on Sunday nights. It was nothing deep, but did emphasize what is good in people in spite of their faults. And it was a cozy time with my dad.
 
My grandmother and I used to watch it every Sunday night after Walker: Texas Ranger. She liked Walker, I didn’t. So I would take a bath during that show and when I was done, we’d watch TbaA. I still find myself humming (ok, outright singing) the intro song when I’m alone.

John Dye was actually one of my first celebrity crushes. And my very favorite episode was the one about the man on death row.

I haven’t watched it in YEARS, and I only saw it when I was very young. I don’t want to watch it now though; I’m afraid I would think it was typical 90’s cheese and it would ruin the memories.

I didn’t know he died until I read this! I looked him up, and Wikipedia says he died in 2011 (age 47) from heart-related issues.

It also says the show ran until 2003. I think my grandmother and I stopped watching it by then, because I only remember seeing it when I was much younger. I didn’t watch it as a teen. I hope it went out with a bang.
 
It’s a guilty pleasure for me. It’s sweet to the point of cheesy, but it’s a comfort.
