Sorry. I just don’t see that in the post you’re quoting. Would you care to explain how you read “importance” into it?

Importance and submission are very different things (by that, I mean that one is not the opposite of the other).
I think you mean that one is not synonymous with the other.

I indeed meant that submission and importance are not antonymous (more people fall into the trap of thinking the submissive person is less important, thus falsely making those words antonyms). But they are also not synonymous. They are unrelated terms.

Being a subject doesn’t make you a worm. All the richest and most powerful women and men in the Roman Empire, people with slaves and estates the size of small cities, were subjects of the Emperor. The archangels are subjects of God. Heck, even the Son and the Holy Spirit make themselves subject to the Father, even though by rights they are equal. They chose to be subjects.

Meanwhile, if you remember a few chapters of Timothy, you’ll see that Paul explicitly notes that Timothy was taught all his good Christian beliefs and habits by his mom and his grandma. Women teach tons; they just don’t teach or prophesy in Church, at Mass. After Mass, you’ve got all the time in the world.

(And women aren’t supposed to go bug their husbands with questions about what the bishop’s teaching during the middle of the homily, but save any questions for later, preferably at home.)

And no, Paul wasn’t a misogynist, nor did he disparage women. If you’ll remember a few other chapters, you’ll recall that he’s always saying Hi to Phoebe and a bunch of other Christian church ladies of clout.
