I remember having a discussion with my brother during which he told me that Thomas Aquinas once wrote that men are like straight trees and women are like crooked trees. The main point of the comparison was that, while women have the capacity for holiness (and some may even become holier than lesser men), men have a higher potential capacity for it. A crooked tree can grow tall, just not as tall as a straight tree might; there are some crooked trees that are taller than some straight trees, but the tallest crooked tree will be shorter than the tallest straight tree.

I have tried, over the years, to find the source of this comparison, but I have never been able to locate it. Does it sound familiar to anyone? Was it perhaps a different theologian?

Mary is regarded as more holy than all the saints and angels combined so I’m a bit confused. Might have happened after Aquinas.
