I want to buy an entire approved Catholic Bible on CD. I would prefer it to be traditional in language (the vernacular), but I can’t find the Douray Rheims on CD. Does anyone know of anything close?
I was looking for one that could be played on a CD player. This one is a PDF, to be read on a computer. There is a CD version of the Douay Rheims available on eBay right now–check cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250146411982 …

EXCELLENT! Precisely what I want!Hi,
To my knowledge, the only way to get the Douay Rheims in an audio version is a cassette tape set that costs about $200. St. Joseph Communications is currently converting it to CD format. This was told to me over the phone by someone who works there.

Watch their website. I hope it will be out soon.

Wow, THANKS, Max!!!I talked to the folks at St. Joseph Communications yesterday.
They said thay the New Testment is completed and they will be releasing it at a large Catholic Conference next week. I think she said “The Catholic Family Conference” but I’m not sure. It will be available to the general public after that. She also said it should be on their website in about 2 weeks.

BUT… the KJV was the authorized version… oh wait. my bad…Wow, THANKS, Max!!!
I’ve reverting to an activity of my Protestant childhood: I’m going to attempt to memorize scripture. It was KJV then, now I want an authorized text, but with comparably beautiful language.
As beautiful as the language is (and it is), I want the one with Holy Mother Church’s stamp of approval.BUT… the KJV was the authorized version… oh wait. my bad…
No, they just said that they were working on it and it is quite a tedious process. I’m sure it will be out in a few months or by the end of the year. This is GREAT news! Did they give any indication on when they would the the OT finished?

As a former protestant myself, I don’t think you will be entirely happy with the DR. Or the RSV-CE, either. Both definitely feel like “compromises” after the beautiful language of the KJV. (I’m a former protestant, too.) I’ve gone with the RSV-CE almost exclusively for study/devotion and for scripture memorization, as the names and sentence structure are more familiar to what I grew up with.Wow, THANKS, Max!!!

I wonder if anyone ever tried to fix the KJV to make it into a Catholic Bible. As beautiful as the language is (and it is), I want the one with Holy Mother Church’s stamp of approval.
That’s what the RSV-CE is.I wonder if anyone ever tried to fix the KJV to make it into a Catholic Bible.
Has anyone been able to find this? I’ve been checking their website regularly, and havn’t seen it yet…I talked to the folks at St. Joseph Communications yesterday.

That’s not a bad price. How is the quality of the recording? I’m debating between this and the RSV-CE audio set…You’ll have to call them directly. I don’t know why it is not on the website yet. I got my copy the other day. Very well worth the money ($50). Know though, the edition of the Rheims New Testament being read is from the 17th century (Pre-Challoner).
