NO - Novus Ordo; see NOM

NOM - Novus Ordo Missae; literally New Order of the Mass. The Missal promulgated by Paul VI sometimes referred to as the Pauline Missal

V2 - The Second Vatican Council

TLM - Traditional Latin Mass; sometimes referred to as the Tridentine Mass

OF - The “Ordinary Form” of Mass for the Latin Rite; see NOM
EF - The “Extraordinary Form” of Mass for the Latin Rite; see TLM

S.T. - Summa Theologica; a philosophical / theological work by St. Thomas of Aquinas

Illicit - Not Permitted
Licit - Permitted

Valid - Effects what it promises. E.g., a valid Consecration is one where the bread and wine become the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ
Invalid - Does not effect what it promises. E.g., an invalid Consecration is one where the bread and wine remain bread and wine, usually due to a defect in matter or form.

NO - Novus Ordo; see NOM

I would avoid this one if you actually want to have a conversation with someone. Many people are offended when someone says that the Ordinary Form of the Mass is NO Mass. The Pope calls the two forms the Ordinary Form and Extraordinary Form (or OF and EF).

NO is short for Novus Ordo just as the glossary states. The term can be found on the Vatican website.

I’ve gotten used to using OF, but not because of the “NO is offensive” argument.
