Could my priest switch from doing the New Mass in English to the Traditional Latin Mass? What I mean is, are all priests trained in Latin? Or are priests specially trained to do the TLM?
Just curious.

These days it seems as if most priests would require special training to celebrate the Extraordinary Form.

Consider–if he were concelebrating with a Byzantine priest, it would be a relatively easy thing to point in him the right direction if he got lost, but would you expect him to celebrate the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom all by himself without some help first?

Yes, your priest can switch or do both at any time he wishes, because of the Pope’s Motu Proprio last year. He does, however, need to learn how to pronounce the latin words, and he needs to have access to the translations and books. He can get trained from any FSSP or other traditional order priest, or from the DVDs they offer, or from sanctamissa.org.

There’s no ‘Latin Mass’ license, and he doesn’t need permission from anyone(though some diocese have limits on the number of Masses that can be said on one day without express permission, etc).

I just noticed that you’re down in Vancouver, WA. According to a fairly reliable source, the archdiocese of Seattle is getting an FSSP parish in the next few months! There is at least one priest who is already planning on getting trained by him to say the EF, so you could mention that to your priest, if he expresses willingness to offer an EF Mass.

The FSSP priest will probably be in the Josephinium chapel, at least to start, taking over from Fr Reichman who is very ill =

I hope that helps =]
