I must say at the outset that I’m NOT looking for contemporary Catholic music. I like listening to the Chant but a friend gave acopy of Taize music a few months ago which I enjoyed but wasn’t sure where find Taize or other “sacred” sounding music on CD. One can download the entire Gregorian Chant of a Vesperal Mass from the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter which offers the Tradtional Latin Mass here fssp.com/main/chant.htm

Any suggestions for other traditional or Sacred music and where to get them.

One CD that I just LOVE to listen to is:

Chanticleer - Matins For the Virgin of Guadalupe. (Ignatio de Jerusalem, comp.)

Magnificent combination of sacred choral, chant, and baroque string sextet (I believe) in a joyous, triumphal, and sometimes solemn tone from this mens choral group.

Four Thumbs way UP! 👍 👍 👍 👍

John Michael Talbot has quite a selection. I wouldn’t call it contemporary. His music is very apporpriate for church.

Peace,
Jen

John Michael Talbot has a quite a selection to chose from. His music is appropriate to be sung at Church. He is not in the contemporary genre.

Vatican Radio 105live…

105live.vaticanradio.org/

…has a weekly feature called “music to watch angels by” that highlights the work of a particular classical composer.

The following is their description of this weeks program (which is archived and can be listened to at any time with winamp or realplayer):

“Bach gave Jesus a kind of musical halo through the St. Matthew Passion: whenever Jesus speaks, the strings accompany him. As Msgr Whitmore explains in our musical series focusing on the last of the Mysteries of Light, the Institution of the Eucharist…* ‘Music To Watch Angels By’”

*It is a beautiful little program… You can also stream Vatican Radio live over the site, which plays a nice selection of music from classical to swing to light pop…

Grace & Peace

They have traditional, Latin Gregorian Chant with a large number (about 50) male voices (a whole Seminary I believe). You can download samples 🙂 and buy the CDs if you like what you hear. I’ve never seen these CDs anywhere else, it seems to be a small operation.
