Traditional Thanksgiving Blessing

If you are the non-spontaneous type when it comes to formal blessings at Thanksgiving, here is a traditional style table blessing you may find helpful. Of course you can adapt it to fit your taste:

THANKSGIVING BLESSING

(A short, appropriate hymn or song may be sung together)

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
All: Amen.

A reading from Psalm 104:

“The eyes of all creatures look to you, Lord,
to give them their food in due time.
When you give it to them, they gather it;
When you open your hand, they are filled with good things.”

Generous Lord, from whom all blessings flow,
we thank you for the goodness of this land and it’s people,
and for the liberties and blessings we enjoy.
We thank you for the beauty and fruitfulness of the land,
and for the productiveness of our hands and our minds.

We thank you for our work and our rest,
for the blessings of friends and family, and for our homes.

For what else do we give thanks?

(Pause for other prayers of thanksgiving)

Lord, for all that we have spoken
And for all that we keep in our hearts,
Accept our thanksgiving on this day.

**Bless us, O Lord, and these thy gifts
Which we are about to receive from your bounty.
Through Christ Our Lord.

All: Amen. **

Go to the web and look up the Thanksgiving Proclamation that George Washington gave upon establishing the very first Thanksgiving Holiday.

I heard it read on the radio today, and it was amazing. Thanksgiving was a Holiday established to truly “give thanks to God” for His blessing and intercession upon America at her time of need during the revolutionary war, and to acknowledge the outcome of the war, with all the rights and privleges established in the governing documents, as coming directly from Him.

I suggest we put this up agains Thomas Jeffersons letter that has always been misunderstood as creating “a separation of church and state”. George Washingtons proclamation clearly declares that God is the source of American as a Nation and free people.

I am going to try to find it as well. First one to find it, post it.
