This question came to me at Christmas Mass when the Gospel was read. The passage from Luke read" “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” While the Gloria, in the new translation reads: “Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to people of good will.”
Further more, the Our Father in Matthew’s Gospel reads:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and do not subject us to the final test, but deliver us from the evil one.
While the Our Father we recite at Mass reads:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Why are these different? Is it something lost in translation. Cause the Mass went from Latin to English while the bible went from different languages to English? Like I said, just a question that popped in my head Christmas Eve.
