Someone posed this question to me - what happens to the Real Presence of Christ 24-36 hours after taking the Eucharist? To me it’s unthinkable that He would end up floating around the bottom of your commode, but if the Eucharist actually becomes the body and blood of our Lord, how does Christ not filter through the entirety of the digestive process like any other food you take in?

Dear Cris,

The moment the appearances of bread and wine change, the Presence leaves. It takes from ten to fifteen minutes for the stomach juices to completely break down the appearances of bread and wine.
