Traveling Recommendations?

I really don’t know if this is the correct board for this thread or not.

I’m planning on going to WYD 2016 in Krakow, Poland with a friend of mine. We’re going independent of the diocese in order to fit in some additional traveling. I was thinking either Paris, because I speak French, or Rome, because of its’ religious significance.

My question is this: given a $5,000 budget, taking into account airfare, lodging, general WYD expenses, etc, what other European city do you recommend visiting (for 6 days)?

I realize planning two years ahead might be a little unnecessary, but I’d like to have a definite plan to work for! Thank you in advance

I think I would go to Fatima in Portugal. Since you are thinking of France, try to go to Lourdes. There are so many places in France I think I would go if I got the chance, but Lourdes tops the list for me. Anywhere in Spain as well.

I would go to Rome. You may have an opportunity to receive a Papal blessing from a public audience.

If your limit is US$5000, first subtract the intercontinental travel, WYD, etc, and what is left will determine the rest of the itinerary.

Rome and Paris are very expensive cities to be in, but involve less additional travel from Cracow.

Fatima and Spain may involve too much additional travel expense.

All things considered, I’d say try to go to Rome.

Well, Lourdes has been suggested, but I’d also think Lisieux. If you want to do France that is. Since you’re planning ahead, see if you can get in a closer meeting with the Pope. I’m not saying a private audience, but one where it isn’t in a huge crowd. St. Therese got to greet the Pope when the group she was traveling with got to meet him. Something similar would be nice. But I don’t know how that sort of thing is worked out.

Go to Rome. You can find very reasonably priced hotels in the city center (make sure you get a centrally located hotel, you don’t want to be trekking in from the outskirts of the city to see things!) if you do some research. Rome has everything a new traveler could want… amazing food, wine, art, and people, tremendous historical significance, and if you’re Catholic its obviously the religious center of the faith. Paris is lovely but I would recommend Rome over Paris without a second thought.

I may be biased because I used to live in Rome, but it really is all it’s cracked up to be.
