Travelling from St. Louis to New Orleans

We just booked a family cruise leaving from New Orleans in July. (Pray for us - it’s my whole family - parents, 2 sisters and bil’s and everyone’s kids) We’ll be driving from St. Louis straight down highway 55. We’re trying to plan where we should stop and visit on the way so I’m hoping someone here has suggestions. We don’t mind leaving the highway for something especially interesting. We’ll definitely be stopping in Vicksburg - my children wouldn’t know what to do if a vacation didn’t include some historical stop (OK, actually, it’s their father who loves that stuff and they get dragged along!!). Speaking of children, we have a 16 year old girl and 13 year old son so we’re looking for older kid ideas.
