I am a member of the Knights of Columbus at my parish. We wanted to do some kind of pro-life activity this spring to help support a local problem pregnancy center here in our town. The deputy grand knight and I brainstormed and came up with the Tree of Life.

At Christmas we do a ‘Jesse Tree’. We put up a Christmas tree with tags on it. The tags have a gift suggestion that the person buys for and brings it back to church. On Christmas Day we have a brunch for homeless and poor people, and give those gifts away to the folks that come to share Christmas with us.

The Tree of Life is the same idea except for mothers and babies and mothers to be. And we didn’t really put up a tree, just a big board for suggestions. On Mothers Day, tomorrow, we will be collecting the suggested items for babies and moms and moms to be, before and after each mass. Then we’re going to donate all the items to the problem pregnancy center here in town for their support of moms and babies.

We really tried to push this, I got the info out to some of the radio stations here in town who put it on their calendars. The local catholic radio station did a 15 min interview about it on Weds morning. I’ve been really pushing it with announcements at Mass.

I’m hoping we get a ton of stuff tomorrow to help the pregnancy center. I want to make this an annual thing at the parish. IMO it’s a great way to be proactive and to help the women that keep their babies. I’d like to see it become a nation wide thing to do on Mother’s Day at catholic churches, to show the nation what it means to be pro-life. So many times I hear that pro-life people don’t care what happens to the babies and the moms that they save from abortion, this is a good way to prove them wrong.

So think about doing something like this in your parish next year on Mother’s Day. It’s pretty easy to organize and imo a simple way of making a big difference.
