At MidnightMass, in many parishes the figure of the Christ-Child is only placed in the manger AFTER Communion, in conjunction with the prologue to Johns Gospel and what we know about the Eucharist, what is the reason for this symbolic gesture?

Hi,
It’s appropriate also as this Mass celebrates the birth of Jesus.
It’s appropriate that the figure of the Child Jesus should be carried into the manger at this point, where John’s gospel announces His birth and His true identity.

“In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things came to be through him,
and without him nothing came to be.
What came to be through him was life,
and this life was the light of the human race;
the light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not overcome it.” [John 1-5}

"And the Word became flesh
and made his dwelling among us,
and we saw his glory,
the glory as of the Father’s only Son,
full of grace and truth. [John 1:14]

I’m used to the Bambino being put in the creche about the time the first star comes out (corresponding with the end of 1st Vespers).

I guess it just depends on local custom.
